ADOPTION & ADOPTEE SUPPORT

Adoption can hold many experiences at once, connection, belonging, love, grief, loss, curiosity, and questions about identity. For adoptees, these experiences may emerge during childhood, adolescence, adulthood, or during major life transitions. Adoptive parents and families may also find themselves navigating attachment, communication, identity development, or questions about how to support their child’s unique experience.

At Tangled Roots, we recognize that every adoption story is different. Therapy offers a space to explore the complexities of adoption without assuming how you should feel about your experience. We approach adoption-related work with curiosity, compassion, and respect for each individual and family’s story.

HOW THERAPY CAN HELP

Together, we may work to:

  • Explore identity, belonging, and questions of “where I fit”

  • Process grief, loss, separation, or complicated emotions surrounding adoption

  • Navigate attachment, trust, and relationship patterns

  • Explore racial, cultural, or transracial adoption experiences

  • Support adoptees navigating adolescence or adulthood

  • Strengthen communication and connection within adoptive families

  • Support adoptive parents in understanding and responding to their child’s needs

  • Create space for curiosity about birth families, origins, or personal history

Our goal is to create space for the full complexity of adoption, helping individuals and families feel more understood, connected, and supported in their unique stories.
